Throughout my undergraduate degree I was involved with an entirely student-run NGO focused on peer-to-peer health education. Through this initiative I was able to engage with youth, both in our local community as well as in Georgetown, Guyana, through interactive programming on various health topics. Connecting with youth of various cultures and socioeconomic statuses, all about similar and sometimes taboo health topics was an incredible learning experience. I think it is imperative that we, as upcoming health care professionals, think critically about the ways in which we conduct ourselves as global citizens, as well as recognize and enact our privilege to initiate positive change. I would be extremely grateful to work as a Global Health Representative for our faculty next year, and have the opportunity to utilize what I have learned as a Junior representative to better serve our class in all of the global health needs and curiosities!
