2. Panuga Thiyagasothy
Hi guys! My name is Panuga Thiyagasothy.
“Be kind to one another” are the famous words of Ellen DeGeneres, my role model. Likewise, my passion in life is to help those in need, both locally and globally. Being a member of the first generation in my family to receive education past elementary school, I see the education and freedom I have in Canada as a privilege. Just as important academics are to my life, I give equal importance to my social responsibilities. After my trip to Sri Lanka in 2012 along with being an executive member of ThinkFast feeding the homeless in Toronto, I realized my passion for helping those in need. Born in Toronto and raised in Brampton, seeing the war-torn village my parents grew up in was life changing. Understanding where my parents came from and what conditions individuals are still living in today truly opened my eyes to how fortunate I am to live in a country like Canada. All in all, my goal in life is to use the education, freedom and rights I have as a female in Canada to help the less fortunate. Being elected as your First Year Global Health Representative will bring me one step closer to this dream.
Thank you!
