Nursing Student of the Month
November 2019

Marina Ivanova
1st Year

“It is with great pleasure that I write this letter to nominate Marina Ivanova for nursing student of the month. Marina has displayed tremendous amount of strength and perseverance, something that I admire and respect tremendously. Marina recently suffered a great loss and while going through this very difficult and personal hardship, Marina has continued to successfully balance her studies, work and personal life. Marina is a great colleague and team player. She is an outstanding nursing student in both the classroom and the clinical field. I full heartily believe she we will be a great nurse one day. Marina always ensures her clients/patients are well taken care of and she is willing to step outside her comfort zone and perform new interventions each week working within her scope of practice. In clinical she is always prepared and ready to help classmates. Although I have only had the pleasure to know Marina for a few months, I can honestly say she is a real friend and a wonderful person. She is always thinking of others, putting others needs and feelings first, ensuring they are doing and feeling well, even if she isn’t. Additionally, Marina also recently received an Ontario Service Youth Award for her 4 years of Hospital volunteer work, when she attended McMaster University. I am more than proud and excited to nominate Marina. She is deserving of this award, especially this month! Proud of you Marina, keep up the great work! ”
Learn more about Marina:
1. What field of nursing do you want to pursue?
I have a particular interest in oncology nursing because of the tremendous impact I've observed nurses have in this field on clients and their families.
2. Tell us a fun fact about yourself!
I enjoy cooking and one of my most prized possessions is a book of family recipes my mom and I put together over the summer.
Christian Nguyen
2nd Year

“I am nominating Christian for being a very well-rounded individual and nursing professional. He is resilient and always empathetic with his patients in his clinical settings. He is able to adapt to unique situations and handle them with kindness and professionalism - which is something all of us to-be nurses can appreciate. He shares his experiences during seminar, and this openness allows for others to learn from him and understand better the different clinical settings that surround us. Never stop being your great self. ”

1. What field of nursing do you want to pursue?
Still not entirely sure, all my placements were amazing so that doesn’t help narrow it down..but I am interested in oncology, palliative care, & cardiology.
2. Tell us a fun fact about yourself!
Been going on portages (backcountry canoe camping) during the past summers. Something about living in the wilderness and being away from civilization momentarily makes it exciting and peaceful. Besides that , if I’m not napping I enjoy playing basketball. I don’t have any pets but if I get one it would be dopperman( bc of Sasha & Alita) or a Samoyed. Lastly , I’d like to leave with a ‘boku no hero’ reference... Go beyond! Plus ultra!!
