Next Position
1. KENNEDY SCHELL
Hello there fellow Nurslings, Kennedy here. I’m going to be honest for a second, this is the first time I’ve run for any sort of student council type thing and I’m super nervous.
So why am I doing it now?
Good question! It’s because of all of you! Coming into this program I was very anxious about a lot of things; meeting new friends, how tough the classes would be, living in a new city. The list goes on. However, right from the first orientation day I was met by brilliant, enthusiastic classmates who were nothing but supportive and encouraging of essentially a total stranger. You all made me excited for what is to come in this program and continue to make me feel like I am in the best environment to progress my learning. The last three weeks have been enough to convince me that I want to make sure my new friends (all of you lovely people) have the most fantastic year.
If elected as your Vice President, it would be my goal to set you up for success in every way possible. The conversations I have had with many of you, and the voices and opinions raised in class, leave me with no doubt that I am surrounded by passionate, critically thinking individuals. I want these passions and ideas cultivated and brought to the people that need to hear them to make things happen.
It would be my primary focus to ensure that we have beneficial events planned and that there is an open line of communication between the faculty, NUS and the students.
Some facts about me (that also show that I am not totally helpless for this position):
-
I graduated from Queen’s University this spring with a Bachelor of Science in Biology (bugs and fungus are my jam);
-
For 2 years I was the Artistic Director of a theatre company on the Queen’s campus called The Imaginary Theatre Company. This allowed me to develop the skills necessary to manage 50+ big personalities during a show, all while having a great time;
-
I have been a barista at Starbucks for 3 years, finessing my communication skills and making perfect hearts on lattes (hit me up for some drink order ideas!);
-
I worked two jobs and rode horses competitively through my entire undergrad - balancing a full plate and keeping busy is a speciality of mine;
-
I absolutely love organizing anything and everything; when a carefully orchestrated plan falls into place it is super satisfying. Check out my day planner for some lovely colour coding!
I am running for Vice President because I want to make sure we all have a great start to our nursing pathways. I am dedicated, hardworking, and incredibly excited at the prospect of what we can achieve together! No matter who you vote for, I know you’ll be in good hands.
