1. Jean ding

Hi Everyone!

My name is Jean Ding and I am running to be your Junior Director of Finance! The reasons I am running for this position are (1) to create a sense of community among our year and the upper years; (2) to try to make our budget reflect what we want to happen these next 2 years; and (3) to try to ensure that we have enough money to host events that brings our years closer together.

For those who don’t know me, here are a few facts about myself. I spent most of my life in Winnipeg, so the cold doesn’t bother me. I came to Toronto after high school to do my undergrad in Physiology and Health & Disease at UofT and graduated this past June. During my undergrad at UofT I have been a part of many clubs and orientation weeks. The reason I think I would be a great Junior Director of Finance is because of my experience being in those leadership roles.

Last year I was a part of the FLC program at UofT. This is a mentorship program for first year students, which I was a peer mentor for. For this role I had to budget $900 to be used throughout the year on various activities and food. I personally did not want to limit my first-year students’ experiences by the amount of money we had so in the first session I asked them what activities they wanted to do throughout the year, therefore the money reflected the activities they wanted to do, as well as help them transition into university. I’ve also had experience budgeting through my role during orientation week.

I have been a part of orientation week at SMC (a college at UofT) for the past 4 years, being a marshal the past 2 years. In this role I was in charge of creating activities for incoming students and had to manage money for a large-scale event. These roles allowed me to develop my leadership and finance skills. Vote for Jean to be your Junior Director of Finance!

I hope to get to know each one of you!
