Nursing Student of the Month
DECEMBER 2017

Aja Nicole Toste
Year 2 BScN Student
"She is so incredibly kind and thoughtful and generous. She is always there for people and posting class notes when she knows things are crazy in school. She is always someone I can go to when I need some emotional support. She is extracurricularly involved in 101 things, always optimistic, fun, cute and outgoing. She's considerate and just 100% genuine. She's sassy, and dances amazing salsa. She's loyal, nonjudgemental, inclusive. I can go on forever...but she's just an amazing person whose supported the nursing students time and time again."

1) Why did you decide to go into nursing?
I decided to go into nursing because it amalgamates my loves of the art and science of the human body, as well as the fostering of social justice and community. In my previous degree, I focused on health psychology because I always had a wonderment towards the human body, its function and brilliance. However, it was only after my mom was sick and I became a full-time caregiver that I truly explored the thought of nursing. After being in this program, I cannot help but be excited for the amazing, but challenging work ahead as a RN.
2) Fun Fact:
A fun fact about me is I have a massive adoration for cows - they are my favourite animal. I also like to create sculptures in my spare time when I'm not swamped with school!

Claudia Molinaro
Year 1 BScN Student
"Claudia takes every opportunity possible to help her peers. She makes an effort to support others in their learning and is always spreading positivity. She goes the extra mile in her studies but also finds time to help others reach their goals. A sudden tragic event happened in my life only a few hours after Claudia and I first met. Although we only new each other's names, and a few other interesting facts, she identified that something was wrong. She made me feel comfortable enough in that short amount of time to open up to her and talk about it. In this moment, Claudia provided the support I needed to make it through that day. Her thoughtfulness and dedication will make Claudia an excellent nurse!"

1) Why did you decide to go into nursing?
I decided to go into nursing as I want to be there for people while they are quite possibly having the worst day ever. I want to be there for them, let them know they are not alone in their health journey and provide them with the support and care they require. However small my impact may be, I'd love to be able to say at the end of each shift that in some way, shape or form, I've helped someone.
2) Fun Fact:
I love watching Spongebob Squarepants in my spare time.
