Hi everyone!
My name is Elayza and my preferred pronouns are she/her. I am running to be one of your Second Year Equity Coordinators. My goal is to further implement equity into our program by inviting you all to participate in outreach activities that cater to people who may be low-income/homeless, of different race, LGBTQ2S+, older (>65) or with mental health issues. During my undergraduate study at UofT Scarborough, I founded the Filipino Student Association and held the President position for 2 years. From this experience, I developed a strong appreciation for the beauty of diversity when collaborating with other clubs. In addition, I volunteered and helped manage events at the Women and Trans Centre. They aimed to build a safe community for female, femme, queer and trans students. Currently, I am involved with Imagine Clinic in providing free healthcare to those without health insurance. So yes, I love outreach and I hope some of you do too! If chosen, I am determined to extend outreach opportunities that will allow nursing students to gain more experience with engaging and caring for marginalized members of society. Furthermore, wouldn’t it be fun to have an event where we get to connect with one another and learn about each other’s culture/identity? I hope you’re mentally agreeing. If not, send me a message because I would love to hear your ideas!
