Hello peers, my name is Sylvia Andrade, and I am running to be your NUS Mentorship Coordinator. I came into this program with a background in Psychology and experience in supporting peers and students alike in their academia. I am sure, many of you relate to the apprehension we experienced going into a compressed program, online nonetheless, and preparing for our first clinical rotations last fall. Safe to say, upon preparing for rotations we all relied on each other, and our senior students for guidance and support. This guidance and support we each provided one another, in a way made us all a mentor, and in a way, we continue to support our fellow peers as we ride this ship called “Nursing”. The community, we as a whole, have created is something I would like to continue to build on and maintain for our future incoming students. As a mentee, I know the questions I asked my mentor, and as a peer, I know the questions many of you asked as we started this program, making it ideal for me to best guide and support you in being mentors towards our incoming cohort. I have had similar past experiences, where I supported students transitioning into their 1st year of university. If elected, it would be my honor to continue the existing mentorship program, as well as build on it to better support our future nursing students.
